In today’s world, collecting data isn’t the problem. It’s making sense out of it. The All In network works to helps communities across the U.S. use data to improve community health. Each year The Civic Canopy provides support to five mentees across the country as a Data Across All Sectors for Health (DASH) mentor. Over the course of ten months, the Canopy hosts bi-monthly meetings that focus on:
- Developing a results statement with a coalition
- Identifying key indicators to measure success
- Using existing data to inform Turn-the-Curve thinking
- Engaging people with lived experience in Participatory Research
- Building coalition relationships to make sharing data possible
- Celebrating your efforts through Ripple Effect Mapping
Mentees include United Ways aligning nonprofits under a collective impact approach, hospital systems considering how they address the root causes of health issues, and public health organizations thinking about how to put data in the hands of community members. Regardless of the mentee, the Canopy begins by putting results at the center. Using a Results Based Accountability model, starting with results gives groups a clear vision of where they are headed. Then, they can focus on the specific actions that will bring that vision to life.
